Clever Campaign
I don’t go about posting things, advertising or supporting certain companies, but this definitely is a clever way to market a company.
I mean, I’m not an advocate of dirty advertising, as I would call this one, but this was definitely a smart way to do it, and I can’t get pass without mentioning.
Watch the video and tell me what you think.
As you might have noticed, the ad is pretty good, but there are many things that you might have questioned.
First, Is DHL really that desperate to create a campaing of this type?
Second, Where are the shipping labels?
Third, this video is not even posted in the DHL official youtube channel.
Turns out, this video was not created by DHL at all, it was a contest of some sort of advertising agencies.
A representative of DHL Media Team replied to a news agency [consumerist.com] saying “This was not something that was initiated by DHL,” and “The video was created by an external agency for their own internal competition. We were aware in advance of the intention to use it for this purpose. We were not aware of any plans to share it externally.”
Well… there you have it guys. It was too good to be true.
Now, the question is…. is DHL taking advantage of this?
Of course they are. This is FREE advertising, and I don’t know if they paid anything under the table or not, but seems legit that they were not part of it. Although, something tells me they were, but they just want to avoid any potential lawsuit, but blaming it on someone else.
What would the other companies do about it?
We would just have to wait. The simplest would be asking with a considerable monetary offer to take the video down, but someone might already ripped and reposted (There are already more than 10 copies of the video). That’s what happen when something goes viral. So, that’s definitely not an option.
They might end up doing the same thing with their own spin.
Overall, let’s be honest, the three of them (UPS, FedEx, DHL) are great shipping companies, it’s just a matter of which one suits better to your needs.
