TEDxUSU: Water, isn't about time?

As most of you might know, today, yes today, November 5, 2013, Utah State University is hosting the second TEDxUSU.



Second? What? Yeah, if you missed it last year, you can check it out here.



This year, the title of the event is Survive.

Such an interesting topic, that makes you think that our world might be ending and we need to gather the resources and knowledge necessary to survive. Isn’t that true though?

We live in a world where the rate of consumption, increases almost exponentially, and we are not doing anything about it. I mean, we are, but not at the ideal rate, that’s why we have talks like this, were we inform the world about new technologies, and other interesting facts that would allow us to Survive in the future.



Something that call my attention is that two of the talks, TWO (2), Dos, yeah… two of them have the word WATER in their title.

Yes, I’m not surprise, because I’ve been studying water usage for the last 4 years, and I know how important is to find ways to either reduce it’s consumption, or find techniques to reduce its contamination. Because without water we are nothing.



First we have Dr. Bruce Bugbee, with “Turning Water Into Food”. I had the honor to have a class with this genius. He’s just full of awesome ideas, and it doesn’t surprise me that he’s in the program. He has worked with NASA, and other countries for years, so he’s knowledge is not only vast, but also very diverse.



Later in the day, Dr. Joanna Endter-Wada,has a talk titled “Water Needs and Wants”. I guess this is pretty self explanatory, although she’s going to focus some of the need in communities living in the arid western of United States. Are we using the amount of water that we actually need, or we are using more? how much water do we have left? These and other questions are going to be answered, and I can’t wait to tie my research to it.



As a water conservation researcher , I’m very proud of these two talks, but most importantly of these two professors, because they are from Utah State University, and I consider one of the best when it comes down to teaching. You don’t want to miss TEDxUSU this year, because is going to be fenomenal.
